Have a look at the makeup brushes you own and ask yourself, are they in good condition and do they need to be cleaned?
A lot of the time, we take our makeup brushes for granted. We use them as we please and never give them much love. As a result the makeup brushes get mad, they start to shed, expand, not work as well as they used to and sometimes even give us infections.
Yes that’s right, infections. Dirty makeup brushes harbor bacteria, mold, fungus and other unpleasant things.
Think of how many times you have used your concealer brush, have you cleaned it as many times? Does the brush look the same as when you bought it? Usually, the answer to both of these questions is no. Think of all the product bunged in the brush bristles – its gone off, sometimes moldy and you are coating it with lovely new fresh concealer product and then putting it under your eyes. I think you get the idea…
Makeup brushes should be cleaned at least once a week if not more. Yes, you can use brush cleaner thats available from many different makeup brands but usually, its not good enough and only provides surface cleaning. Shampooing your brushes is the best way and much cheaper. Any shampoo will do.
Here is what to do:
1. Dampen the brush and drop a pea sized amount of shampoo on the bristles.
2. Build up a good lather and gently scrub at the base of the bristles with your fingers.
3, Rinse the brush under lukewarm water until the water runs clear.
4. Mold the brushes back into their original shape with your fingers and place on a flat surface to dry.
Cleaning your brushes regularly in this way will ensure they keep their shape for longer, they shed less, apply product better and most importantly, they won’t be the home of any unpleasant bacteria.
A makeup brush is not just for christmas.
