Before I get into this I would like to say that I know I have a problem with foundation. I go through phases of thinking it’s under control but really, I’m just fooling myself. I’m always looking for the next best one, the one that will do it all. There are now 6 foundations on rotation in my collection and to be honest, I thought I was cool with all of them. 6 foundations that do a plethora of things between them when mixed together, perfect right? No.
Here’s what happened. I was on a shoot with Guerlain. Gary, their brilliant makeup artist, was sorting through products in his kit and I noticed lots of these little sample bottles, above. I asked about them and he explained that this was the newest foundation from Guerlain, an off-shoot from the Orchidée Impériale skincare line (which I LOVE by the way, but more on that another time). He said (whilst I was trying to breathe through potential-new-foundation palpitations) that it’s a revolutionary new formula that does many amazing things, and you know what? It does. I have never been as impressed with a foundation as I am with this, and that’s saying something. The texture of this is like nothing I have ever used before, it’s thick and creamy but light as air when applied. It feels incredibly rich and hydrating without a hint of any oil slick action. It covers most of my problem area’s but lets the skin peek through beautifully and it gives the most amazing glow. On top of that it lasts all day and sometimes, into the next day (whoops).
It’s not on the shelves here yet and I have no idea how much it’s going to cost, but I know this: it will be mine. I don’t know how and I don’t know when, but it’s going to happen. In the meantime I’m going to stretch this sample bottle out like a sample bottle has never been stretched out before!
As an aside, I would imagine that this foundation would be suited to those of a normal to dry complexion who are looking for medium to full coverage.
